Desperate for Daddy Don’s love, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, on Thursday introduced a new bill aimed bolstering the president’s sweeping immigration crackdown.

As its name suggests, Cornyn’s “Sanctuary City Elimination Act” would mandate all state, local and federal law enforcement agencies nationwide coordinate with President Donald Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Specifically, the bill would prevent so-called “sanctuary cities,” or municipalities that limit cooperation with ICE to protect the dignity and livelihoods of undocumented immigrants, from accessing federal money, according to a statement from the senator. It also would “allow victims of criminal illegal aliens who are released from sanctuary jurisdictions and reoffend in other states to seek justice,” the statement said.

“For far too long, sanctuary cities across the nation have sidestepped federal immigration law and created safe havens for dangerous illegal aliens, putting the safety and security of Americans at risk and undermining the rule of law,” Cornyn said in a statement.

The four-term senator filed the bill as he heads into a tight GOP runoff against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The winner of the May 26 contest will face the formidable and well-funded Democrat James Talarico in November’s general election.

Earlier this year, Trump said he would endorse either Cornyn or Paxton in the in the race following the March 3 primary. At the time, CNN reported the president was leaning toward Cornyn.

However, Trump has made no endorsement as of press time, and as the days tick down to the runoff, it appears increasingly unlikely he’ll weigh in.

In the meantime, Cornyn has proved willing to do damn near anything to sway Trump to his side.

In addition to staging photos of himself reading Trump’s Art of the Deal and eating at Houston’s since-rebranded Trump Burger, the senator has flip-flopped to support ending the filibuster.

Indeed, the Houston Chronicle recently reported both Cornyn’s campaign and Paxton’s frequently run TV spots in Palm Beach, Washington, D.C., and near Trump’s private golf course in New Jersey — all ostensibly for an audience of one.

Despite all of Cornyn’s MAGA pandering, a poll released this week shows he and Paxton in a statistical tie in the runoff.
