Why this blog? Because ignorance is contagious.
How did we get politicians who advocate for the richest 2% in this country while advising the nation’s beleaguered unemployed–in the worst economic recession in 80 years–to simply get some jobs? Because apathy is contagious, too; particularly the voter variety.
It takes an informed and motivated electorate to fully participate in a democracy. Without such a citizenry, those who are motivated [read: top 2%] are the only ones whose voices get heard. Because make no mistake: in our representative democracy, in the absence of an engaged electorate holding their reps accountable, representatives are for sale.
So my modest goal here is to shine a klieg light on the political issues–local, state and national–that affect the other 98% of us.
