Rumors swirled earlier this week after someone posted an online image allegedly showing a new commercial development in San Antonio with an exciting inclusion for fans of scattered, smothered and covered hash browns — the city’s first Waffle House.
The image, shared Monday in the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group, set off a whirlwind of excitement and speculation about the Norcross, Georgia-based chain finally making its way to the Alamo City.
There’s only one problem: the image is a fake.

A real estate company that manages the commercial property in question, located at Potranco Road and Highway 211, told MySA the image had been doctored and there were no plans to bring the famous — and infamous — diner to the Alamo City.
“I’ve actually called Waffle House in the last 30 days and they said they didn’t have San Antonio on their immediate radar,” Marcus Shaffer of Fulcrum Development told MySA. “It didn’t appear as of maybe two or three weeks ago that they were active in San Antonio.”
However, Shaffer admitted that he doesn’t know why the 24-hour flapjack emporium isn’t eyeing the Alamo City, especially given the outcry of local foodies eager for its arrival.
Until that day comes, the nearest Waffle House is 60 miles away in Kyle, Texas.
Other tenants included in the San Antonio development’s image — such as Burger Boy, Chick-fil-A and Andy’s Frozen Custard — are confirmed and are either in the works or already open.
