Dark Norwegian folk band Wardruna will sail into San Antonio this fall for a show that seems likely to conjure ancient forces, or at least stir something primal within.

Assisting in the tour’s spellcasting is none other than equally witchy opener Chelsea Wolfe.

The just-announced concert will take place at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Sept. 5 — right before September’s full moon for the Pagans among us.

General tickets go on sale this Friday, though the Tobin hasn’t yet revealed prices. Those with an artist presale code can already purchase tickets via the Tobin website.

The Nordic group is stopping in the Alamo City on the second leg of a world tour promoting the album Birna, released in January. The new release is named for the Old Norse word for “she-bear.”

“In dialogue with nature, main composer Einar Selvik has been searching for the voice of the bear, our lost sister of the forest,” the Tobin’s event page says of the LP.

Hailing from Bergen, Norway, the ambient folk band has amassed a huge online following, with tens of millions of views for its equally epic YouTube videos. The ensemble also earned international attention for contributing to the soundtrack of the TV show Vikings.

Opener Chelsea Wolfe has also amassed more than a cult following, though the cvlt vibes are strong. The singer-songwriter is signed to Sargent House, a label that represents adventurous metal acts Botch, Boris, Deafheaven, Earth and Russian Circles.

Though much of her tastefully goth oeuvre blends ethereal vocals with elements of dark folk and industrial, Wolfe’s 2024 album She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She veers into both jazzier and heavier directions. Let’s just say someone has been listening to Björk and NIN, and we are not mad about it.

Upon consulting our orb, we envisage this show will be an entrancing, intoxicating experience.

Ticket prices unavailable, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, H-E-B Performance Hall, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, 100 Auditorium Circle, (210) 223-8624, tobincenter.org.
