Legendary funk and disco outfit Nile Rodgers and Chic will headline the Tobin Center’s annual benefit concert, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1.
Chic, helmed by guitarist Rodgers, brought its stripped-down, groove-oriented funk to discos across the nation, racking up chart topping hits including “Le Freak,” “Good Times” and “Everybody Dance.” The group collaborated with Sister Sledge and Diana Ross, and bassist Bernard Edwards’ snappy lines continue to be sampled regularly by hip-hop artists.
Tickets are already on sale, and all proceeds from the bash support The Tobin Center’s Generation NEXT Education Initiative and community outreach programs. Those programs provides inclusive artistic experiences to more than 50,000 people yearly.
Community funds allowed the Tobin to host 69 free community events last year, according to a statement from the venue.
In addition to standard tickets available for $89, the Tobin is offering a range of sponsorship levels for the event, from $300 individual backing to multi-person table packages running up to $25,000 package.
