Aughts-era post-grunge pop rockers Nickelback will serve as the Friday headliner for the Cattle Country Music Festival, scheduled for April 10-12 an hour east of San Antonio, according to concert organizers.
Before Nickelback’s addition, the three-day jamboree near the town of Gonzales had already unveiled a nearly complete lineup, largely oriented around county and Americana. Parker McCollum, Tanya Tucker, Clint Black, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Chase Rice, Wyatt Flores and Clay Walker and others are some of the bigger names on the bill.
But apparently, organizers still thought “a hero could save us.” Enter Nickelback.
The band has been the butt of numerous Internet jokes and memes (particularly endless riffs on lead singer Chad Croger holding up a picture in the music video for “Photograph”), and their music hasn’t exactly aged well. Nonetheless, they can still draw a crowd.
Nickelback will receive support from opener Gretchen Wilson on Friday. Wilson is known for the track “Redneck Woman,” which earned her a Grammy and hit No. 1 on the Billboard country charts. Wilson’s other popular tracks include the good-time-gal anthem “Here For the Party,” which has 13 million views on YouTube.
The Cattle Country Music Festival will serve as a bicentennial celebration for Gonzales. Hosted on a sprawling 400-acre ranch, concertgoers are invited to fish, tube and swim in the river that winds through the property.
Presale passes for the fest start at $179 and are available at the event’s website. Tent camping, RV and VIP glamping passes are also available.
