Paper Tiger and Transmission Events begin on a strong, heavy footing

Paper Tiger just announced the venue name and debut weekend show for the March 20-22 opening of the building at 2410 N. St. Mary's. Formerly known as the White Rabbit, the venue has been in transition for the past few months, returning with a stellar three-day gig of indie rock, punk and otherwise heavy music.

The Facebook page launched today is the first official word on the venue's new name. In February, the venue announced a first draft of the name, Phantom Power, but retracted it when Hi-Tones owner Danny Delgado announced plans for Phantom Room, a bar across the street on N. St. Mary's. Paper Tiger joins The Monterrey, Hot Joy and Barbaro under the operation of San Antonio's Empty Stomachs Restaurant Group.

The free Paper Tiger opening also tips off the introduction of Transmission Events in San Antonio. Founded in Austin in 2006, Transmission Events curates the stage at The Mohawk and runs Fun Fun Fun Fest. To help complement the Transmission vote, SA promoter Mondo Nation is also on board for the Paper Tiger opening.

Friday's gig features Danish punks Iceage, stoner-popper King Tuff, Florida indie quartet Surfer Blood and LA glammer Snow Wite. SA additions include Saakred, Spokesmodel and Filthy.

Saturday promises Texas icon Roky Erikson, Dutch songwriter Jocco Garnder and Australian quartet The Twerps. SA's Flower Jesus and Bill Baird round out the bill, along with Yoshimoto, Single Lash, Survival Guide and ONWE.

Rounding out the weekend, Sunday includes Ryan Hemsworth, Saint Pepsi, Mitski, Maxo, Et Aliae, Xander Harris, SA's Massiver, Sune, Silk Rodeo and Artificial Earth Machine.
