UTSA's New Music Festival Begins Tuesday, March 8

In its third year, University of Texas at San Antonio's annual New Music Festival is continuing the tradition of displaying the music department's skills as one of the top schools for musical enrichment, as well as "New Music," post-modern compositions for large ensembles.

The Festival will take place over a span of three nights, each with a unique focus. The first night, Tuesday, March 8, will be a celebration of chamber music and will recognize compositions by UTSA faculty Dr. James Scott Balentine and Andrew Bergmann, in addition to modern composers, Israeli-American Yotam Haber and Dutchman Louis Andriessen. 

On Wednesday's concert, compositions by American Stacy Garrop, Russian Mieczyslaw Weinberg and UTSA faculty member Ethan Wickman will be performed by the Avalon String Quartet. 

The third and last night will feature the UTSA Symphonic Band and UTSA Wind Ensemble who'll play the music of award-winning video game music composer James Bonney and UTSA faculty member James Syler.
