The restaurant concept specializing in poke, a Hawaiian raw-seafood specialty, will open 10 stores in the greater San Antonio market over the next two years, officials said Tuesday. The company didn’t reveal the locations of the planned restaurants or when the first will launch.
The market’s Alamo City franchisee, former Olympic swimmer Agustin Guzman, also plans to develop locations in the Rio Grande Valley. He currently operates Pokéworks’ McAllen location and is in the process of opening another in Mission.
“I’ve experienced success across varying industries, but what sets Pokéworks apart is their momentum — it’s a high-performing brand that’s constantly improving, innovating and growing,” Guzman said in a company statement.
Pokéworks’ serves up customizable poke bowls, salads and burritos, which guests can tailor to individual dietary needs, including vegan and gluten-free, according to its online menus. The restaurants also offer a variety of Hawaiian favorites including teriyaki salmon, charbroiled huli huli chicken, garlic Spam musubi and macaroni salad.
The business operates 72 restaurants across the U.S., Canada and Taiwan. The chain already has units in Austin, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, El Paso and Houston.
“Texas has always remained a key market for our growth plans, and selling out its largest city while locking in a major development deal in San Antonio is an incredible accomplishment,” Pokéworks Chief Development Officer Peter Yang said in a statement.
