The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is in need of blood donations due to the ravaging snowstorms in the Northeast, according to a press release.

Due to STBTC being one of the largest blood donation center in the country, the center is asking the community to step up to help those in the Northeast. The extreme weather conditions have left blood centers in that area of the country unable to collect donations.

Blood donations collected this month will help communities in the Northeast as well as local patients from dozens of hospitals throughout South Texas.

"Our communities have proven time and time again that we are about resiliency and helping our neighbors," said chief operating officer Elizabeth Waltman. "Every donation can help save up to three lives, at a time when our hospitals and patients are relying on us."

STBTC encourages all blood donations, but especially those with O-negative blood since it is a universal type that anyone can receive.

If you want to give back, you can schedule a donation by calling (210) 731-5590 or visiting southtexasblood.org.

Additionally, anyone who donates this month is eligible to receive a BOGO shirt from Bill Miller Bar-B-Q to get a free slice of pie with a purchase of a combo meal through April.
