The San Antonio Symphony presents the ballet Cinderella, one of Prokofiev’s most popular and melodious compositions, and has inspired a great many choreographers. The composer wrote, “What I wished to express above all in the music of Cinderella was the poetic love of Cinderella and the Prince, the birth and flowering of that love, the obstacles in its path, and finally the dream fulfilled.” The concert begins with Dukas’ symphonic poem The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. It is now best known as part of Walt Disney’s Fantasia featuring Mickey Mouse, but it was originally inspired by a poem by Goethe. Also featured is the most famous concerto for two pianos by the French composer Poulenc, performed by the dynamic twin-sister duo, Christina and Michelle Naughton.
