The Moth Mainstage

Born on a porch in Georgia and later developed in bars and clubs in New York City, The Moth is a globally recognized organization built around “true stories, told live and without notes.” Encompassing StorySlam events hosted in 26 cities, a radio show aired by 450 radio and a podcast downloaded by 700,000 weekly listeners, The Moth celebrates “the ability of stories to honor both the diversity and commonality of human experience, and to satisfy a vital human need for connection.” Likened to “a community where entertainment and enlightenment merge,” The Moth Mainstage takes shape in curated events that unite five storytellers often exploring a common theme. Hosted by San Antonio native David Crabb (a Morrissey fan whose memoir Bad Kid details his experiences growing up goth and gay in Texas), The Moth Mainstage returns to the Alamo City for a San Antonio Book Festival event featuring presentations by Bronx-born artist, jewelry designer and writer Phyllis Marie Bowdwin (aka the Bronx Pickle), interior designer, life coach, actress and singer Ana Del Castillo, author, performer and longtime New Yorker contributor Adam Gopnik, memoirist, world traveler and Corpus Christi native Stephanie Elizondo Griest and playwright, radio host and raconteur Warren Holleman.

Earl Abel's
Located at Broadway and Hildebrand, this iconic San Antonio restaurant was enjoyed by generations for its fried chicken, pies, breakfasts and other comfort food. It opened in 1933 but was displaced in 2006 by the construction of a luxury condo tower. New owners kept the SA favorite going in two new locations but finally threw in the towel last year due to post-pandemic pressures.
