The Current's most-read stories this week suggest that folks still aren't tired of dumping on U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, the man Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro once so accurately described as a "sad sack."

The most-read article pointed out the contradiction in Texas' junior senator giving a Twitter high five to NBA players for refusing to get vaccinated — because they deserve bodily autonomy — while also telling women they should shut up and accept Texas' abortion ban.

Beyond that, our story with the third-most readers highlighted a possible new break in the Zodiac Killer case. And that, in turn, may be disappointing to folks fond of sharing the intentionally absurd Ted Cruz-is-the-Zodiac Killer meme.

Hell, one could even argue that a story further down the list — one about a San Antonio loan officer getting slapped with a 45-day sentence for his part in the Jan. 6 insurrection was indirectly a Cruz story. After all, Teddy Boy was among the highest-profile elected officials who tried to overturn the 2020 election.
