A historic San Antonio home built to look like a French farmhouse is for sale

A 1929 Monte Vista cottage modeled after the rustic farmhouses found in Normandy, France, has hit the market with a $625,000 price tag.

An authentically homey feel pervades the 1,800-square-foot home's two-story living room, which features vaulted, wood-beamed ceilings and the type of corner fireplace used for cooking in Normandy. The rough-hewn wood beams continue through the dining room and kitchen.

The authentic feel likely stems from the three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath property's builder hiring a craftsman who'd recently immigrated from Germany to put "vast energy" into capturing the Old World feel, according 1970s article from the San Antonio Express about the unusual home.

The article also notes that the builder had the misfortune of putting the structure on the market the Sunday before the stock market crash of 1929. The onset of the Great Depression meant it went unsold until his mother stepped in as a buyer.

While there's plenty old to admire about the recently listed cottage, it's also received plenty of modern updates thanks to a more recent owner, according to its sales listing. The kitchen is equipped with recent appliances and "on-trend lighting." What's more, the dwelling includes smart-home features plus a Tesla charger.
