A restored 1910 home owned by the head of San Antonio's W.E. Smith Baking Powder is for sale

The name of W.E. Smith Baking Powder hasn't stood the test of time like that of other venerable San Antonio businesses such as Frost Bank or C.H. Guenther & Sons. However, the 1910 home first occupied by the company's manager, Harry A. Frey, has certainly weathered the years — and looks no worse for the wear.

The Victorian cottage in Tobin Hill recently went on the market for $525,000, and a restoration accentuated century-old architectural details such as wooden judges paneling throughout its living areas and a plate rail in the dining room. An L-shaped covered porch wraps the property's exterior.

Given the residence's exquisite looks, it's hard to believe it was once carved up into a boarding house. However, old newspaper ads show that it was being rented out as early as 1937, according to the listing agent, and the property's five exterior doors suggest it was once outfitted to accommodate multiple tenants.
