An architect who did preservation work on the Alamo is selling this eccentric Pleasanton mansion

Architect Victor Hugo Salas has been honored for his restoration work on revered historical landmarks including the Alamo, Mission San José and Menger Hotel. But, apparently, when it comes to designing his own dwelling, his eye was on anything but tradition.

Late last year, Salas listed his 6,200-square-foot home in Pleasanton for just under $5 million, and it's a sprawling wonderland of curved upstairs walkways, mirror-sheen black kitchen decor and baroque bathrooms.

As if the decorative eccentricities of the nine-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bath main house aren't enough to drop one's jaw, the 147-acre property also includes a runway approved by the local airport, according to its property listing.

Rounding out the package is a 14,000-square-foot "barndominium," complete with a conference area and commercial kitchen. There's also a full-length basketball court with Mayan architecture-inspired back wall, a pool and a pair of outside gazebos.

Buckle your seatbelt and get ready for one wild tour.

This property is listed by Christopher Watters with Watters International Realty.
