The former home of original San Antonio Spurs owner Angelo Drossos is for sale

The late Angelo Drossos bought the San Antonio Spurs basketball team and moved it here from Dallas in 1973.  The Alamo City businessman oversaw the team through its absorption into the NBA via the merger with the American Basketball Association and also is credited with advocating for significant league changes such as the adoption of the three-point shot.

With the Spurs entering a new era with the addition No. 1 draft pick Victor Wembanyama, it only seems fitting that Drossos' former Alamo Heights mansion recently hit the market for a cool $1 million.

Built in 1972, the elegant property features a four-pillared colonial-style facade. High-end touches such as marble flooring and high ceilings grace the interior. The height of the front door and of many other doorways throughout the house suggest Drossos regularly entertained Spurs players at his residence, according to the property's current owner.

The 4,000-square-foot home also includes a deep backyard pool outfitted not just with a diving board and a slide but a pair of stone lions that keep watch on either side. A massive covered patio supported by pillars similar to those at the front of the house overlooks the pool, and a Spurs logo is etched into the concrete at a side entrance.

Also worthy of note, San Antonio-based construction giant H.B. Zachry built the estate. Although known work on big-ticket projects such as highways, power plants and government buildings, Zachry also had a period where it built high-end homes such as Drossos' distinctive four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath mansion.
