This historic home for sale near Woodlawn Lake was built by a San Antonio banking magnate

This 1939 Colonial Revival home that recently hit the market has two claims to fame — both of which contributed to it receiving a historical designation from the city of San Antonio

First, the property, like several others along the same block, were built as model homes for the first housing development around Woodlawn Lake. Prior to that, the land had been park space, but it was sold off during the Great Depression.

Second, the property was the childhood home of the late James W. Gorman Jr., an oilman-turned-stockbroker who was the founding chairman of the Bank of San Antonio and served on boards of businesses ranging from Frost Bank to Lone Star Brewery. He was even the Texas Cavaliers' 1973 King Antonio.

The home, now listed for $520,000, has more going for it than history, though. Recent renovations have added modern touches such as an elegant kitchen with quartz countertops while keeping original elements such as its hardwood floors and a breezeway patio that was all the rage in the days before air conditioning.
