A Victorian home in San Antonio's Monte Vista Historic District has hit the market for $1.25 million, and it includes plenty of stately turn-of-the-century features — along with rumors of a clandestine past.
“According to legend the basement was a speakeasy in the ’20s,” the home's seller, Darien McWhirter, told the Express-News
when the property was featured in 2015's Monte Vista Home Tour.
The basement may have been the party spot during Prohibition. Hover, the four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath house comes with a much more elegant place to throw a shindig: an expansive ballroom with polished wood floors and a coffered ceiling.
A spacious entry area includes a carved staircase that passes by multiple stained glass windows, and a covered porch wraps around the front of the house, according to the property listing.
