As an architect, L. Brooks Martin worked on numerous San Antonio projects including St. Mary’s University, the 1960s San Antonio River Bend project and the restoration of the historic José Navarro house.

But that wasn't the only kind of design on Martin's resume. As a staffer at Southwest Research Institute, he studied the use of lightweight materials for structures in hostile environments — which included silos for the Thor ballistic missile.

During his years as an architect, Martin also designed a few houses, bringing various influences into his work, including Art Deco design he learned while studying in Europe.

This $630,000 Martin-designed house for sale in Terrell Hills is one of his his works from 1959. On this project, the architect clearly embraced the Mid-Century Modern style.

The updated split-level boasts vaulted ceilings and clean lines. It also has a wide walkway that looks down into both sides of the open floor plan below. Located on the outskirts of Fort Sam Houston, the house has a private entrance into Bel Meade Park.

This home is listed by George Sarran with ECO Realty Solutions.
