Pete L. Gonzales, owner of 210 Kapone's, was early killed Sunday morning by one of the nightclub's patrons.

Before killing Pete L. Gonzales, owner of 210 Kapone's, the killer had rented a VIP room at the downtown club, according to a police report.

The San Antonio Police Department isn't releasing the name of the suspect to ensure the integrity of the investigation.

According to a police report obtained by the San Antonio Current, the suspect fired three shots at Gonzales with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun early Sunday morning after the suspect was kicked out of a VIP room at the bar for causing a disturbance. The report did not provide details of the disturbance.

Gonzales was hit in the upper back right shoulder and right elbow, according to the police report, which says Gonzales appeared unconscious and was non-responsive when EMS arrived.

A witness who was outside of the bar at the time of the shooting told police the suspect pulled up in his vehicle, got out of the driver's seat and shot at Gonzales, according to the police report.

When Gonzales was shot, he was dealing with an unrelated disturbance outside, according to police.

SAPD immediately placed a lookout for a blue sedan, either a Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis, reportedly driven by the suspect who was tentatively identified by the SAPD Gang Unit.

Sylvia Fernandez, Gonzales' ex-wife, said his work gave birth to Nikita Productions, Slinging Ink Tattoo Expo, River City Bike Fest, Siesta Fest, South Texas Rock Fest, Backstage Live, and most recently, 210 Kapone's, along with multiple concert events.

"Pete was a kind hearted person who would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. He is loved and mourned by the many loved ones he left behind," she said in an email.

Gonzales is survived by his 28-year-old daughter, a 9-year-old son, twin 5-year-old daughters, father, son and numerous friends, Fernandez said.

210 Kapone's closed after the shooting, but plans to re-open Wednesday night.
