Riff Raff

Everyone applauds the cultural merit and campy, good bad taste of artists like John Waters and Seth Bogart. But what about bad bad taste, like gaudy grandma wallpaper, or Riff Raff? The Houston rapper’s songs usually revolve around one central shtick: on a new song named after the Mexican billionaire, he feels so rich he “might move to Mex-co, Carlos Slim.” Listening to a Riff Raff cut is like walking through a mall. There are so many brand names being thrown at you, like his neck tattoo of the MTV emblem. Despite his gimmicky rapping, there’s a definite car crash appeal to the whole thing. Like a bug to the self-proclaimed Neon Icon, I can’t look away.
