Ok, so we’re literally blasting Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” in the office right now, and that shit still goes hard af. And ya know, I don’t mind that this is becoming a trope. San Antonio loves the ’90s – fuck it. We live for that shit. And there’s definitely worse shit out there that we could be into, so we’re just gonna let ourselves live, mkay? Our next fix of 1990s nostalgia comes in the form of Coolio and Naughty by Nature, who will be headlining the bill on Wednesday at this year’s Siesta Fest at Alamo City Music Hall. Back for its twelfth year, Siesta Fest is the annual musical takeover of Fiesta with three days of rock ‘n’ roll and hip-hop – all during our citywide excuse-for-being-drunk-for-two-weeks-straight celebration of, well, San Antonio. The event was started by Alamo City Music Hall owner Sylvia Fernandez and the late 210 Kapones owner Pete L. Gonzalez Jr., who was killed outside his club in 2015. The Spazmatics, who play ’80s hits like A-ha’s “Take on Me” and Devo’s “Whip It,” will headline Thursday night with “Take Me Home Tonight” singer Eddie Money closing out the show Friday.
