The actress and activist is plenty vocal about human rights issues, especially immigration, on Twitter, but she also put herself to work during her Texas trip. She joined RAICES, the locally-based immigrant and refugee legal services provider, in an effort to help people "better understand the plight of asylum seekers at the border." RAICES gained national attention this year in its fight against the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy.
Posting Twitter updates throughout the week, Milano visited San Antonio's downtown Greyhound bus station, noting that's where ICE drops off asylum seekers once they're released from detention centers. RAICES is often on-site, helping immigrants get to their destination and providing resources.
Just went to St. Mary’s Greyhound Station in San Antonio. This is where ICE drops off asylum seekers when they’re released from detention. @RAICESTEXAS volunteers help 60 families a day to make sure they have the ability to get to their destination.

Thank you again to @Alyssa_Milano for lending a hand. Here she is with Mariela, who runs the program. pic.twitter.com/gZEM56djOK
The actress also visited detention centers in Karnes and Tornillo, the latter site a tent city housing migrant children separated from their parents.
When we arrived at Karnes Detention Center there was something serious enough going on that there was a sniper out front. When I asked about what was going on, I was told it was a drill. #FamilySeparation pic.twitter.com/49UTbNwJN8

Separating families and traumatizing children is a choice we don’t need to keep making. We know how to fairly examine each case in a safe space.

Why aren’t we working toward that?
All people have rights. We need to respect those basic rights and uphold our values. #Tornillo pic.twitter.com/F52Urr3uKP
