Piff the Magic Dragon — “the world’s second most famous magic dragon” — gave a surprise turn on the 2015 season of America’s Got Talent, and delighted the judges with increasingly elaborate card tricks that vaulted him all the way to the final round of competition. Now, Piff’s got his own Vegas residency at the Flamingo Hotel alongside his loyal canine companion, Mr. Piffles, who holds the possibly dubious honor of being “The World’s Only Magic Performing Chihuahua.” John van der Put, the Brit with a dry wit behind Piff, deadpans his way through tricks and chows down on sandwiches on stage in a motley dragon costume, putting a comic twist on an innovative slate of illusions. But beware to anyone who volunteers to help with a trick or two — there’s a chance that Piff may ask you for some petty cash to cover his bus fare.
