Salve Dolorosa, Songs in the Missions of San Antonio in 18th Century Holy Week

Folklorist Binisa Zentella will sing the hymn “Salve Dolorosa” accompanied by her guitar, with her original music set to this ancient text from the Aljaba, a literary intangible culture of the 1700s, as well as a selection of 18th century Andalusian songs and “Saetas” dedicated to La Virgen Dolorosa. To join the songs and music performance is Cultural Anthropologist and performer Dr. C. Maria Zentella who will recite sonnets of the Aljaba to Jesus Crucified, and will conduct a narrative based on the 1789 Method of Governance of Mission Concepcion highlighting the traditions established for Holy Week.
