S'nuff Film

Director Steven Spielberg plans on remaking Harvey, the 1950 classic starring Jimmy Stewart as a man with an invisible rabbit for a best friend. If you care very strongly about this one way or the other, hit me up at [email protected], because you seriously need to get out more. You’ll also be glad to know that, thanks to Texas Public Radio, you’ve got another chance to catch Harvey on the big screen before Spielberg makes it into a weepy metaphor for the loss of childhood or some horseshit. The original screens 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, at Santikos Bijou (4522 Fredericksburg); suggested donation is $12 ($10 for members).

If you’re too young to remember Harvey, try Slab Cinema’s free outdoor offering — Footloose. The story of a town with no dancing (and a reliable go-to when you’re playing the Kevin Bacon game) begins at dark Thursday, August 13, at HemisFair Park (200 S. Alamo).

Or maybe you think you could do better than invisible rabbits or dancing Bacon. In that case, hot shot, maybe you should think about entering Dallas’s 10th annual Vistas Film Festival, currently seeking “short and long films, as well as documentaries, that are by or about Latinos.” If you’ve got the goods, send them ASAP to: Vistas Film Festival, 716 Wayne St., Dallas, TX 75223 attn: Anna Marie Macias.
