An East Texas man has been charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal after he told authorities he abused a dog to relieve stress.

The Dickinson Police Department arrested and charged Jeremy Dewayne Burton, 25, after he admitted to harming a dog last Thursday. According to Houston's KPRC, witnesses saw Burton punching an adult pit bull in the head, kicking the dog, swinging it in the air with a belt tied around its neck and slamming the dog to the ground.

When authorities encountered Burton, he was walking the dog. Police said the pit bull had a cut on its head, was cowering and barely able to walk. Burton told authorities that he had taken the dog from the yard of a house nearby.

He also told officers that he took his frustration out on the dog because he was stressed out and angry.

Burton's bond is set at $60,000.
