Founded in the summer of 2013 by certified Master Reuser Mary Elizabeth Cantu and collaborator/educator Gabriela Santiago, the Spare Parts Mini Art Museum functions as a mobile art gallery that showcases wee works of art (most measure 4” x 4” or smaller) in maquette-type displays that employ hardcover books or binders as “museum” walls. Having collaborated with guest curators, celebrated local artists and most recently Los Angeles-based artist and activist Mario Ybarra Jr. (on the traveling exhibition “Chicos Pero Locos”), the award-winning museum continues its commendable outreach efforts with “Let Me Introduce Myself,” an exhibit showcasing residents of the Cyndi Taylor Krier Juvenile Correctional Treatment Center. Uniting young artists Amador, Britney, Damien, Daniel, Isaiah, Jason, Jose, Marcellus, Terrance, Xavery and enrichment coordinator Ms. Maupin, the show packs big themes into small packages, exploring everything from faith and freedom to gender and geography. As with all MAM offerings, magnifying glasses will be provided to enhance the viewing experience.
