The San Antonio Theatre Coalition is accepting applications from playwrights and directors who are 18 or older and are interested in participating in the second annual TheatreASAP, which will be held Saturday, September 10, 2005, at the Magik Theatre.
TheatreASAP is a 24-hour event designed to showcase the diversity and talent of the local theater community. Writers receive a word or short phrase, a prop and a cast list (gender and age ranges only) at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 9. They have until 6 a.m. on Saturday to write a 10-minute play incorporating those elements. Directors will be randomly assigned to each of the scripts at 8 a.m. on Saturday and spend the day rehearsing with the casts. The show goes on at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
Interested playwrights should submit a résumé and a five- to 10-page script as a writing sample. Directors need to submit a résumé only. Directors must also be available from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. for casting auditions at the Harlequin Dinner Theatre on Sunday, August 21.

The local theater community lost a remarkably talented actor last month when Sid Trice died at his home in San Antonio on May 17. "Sid was the best of all of us," said Chris Champlin of the Harlequin Dinner Theatre. "Any actor fortunate enough to spend an hour on stage with Sid was treated to a master class in how it should be done."
The Vexler Theatre's Ken and Tammy Frazier will host an informal gathering of friends and family to celebrate Sid's memory ("He would not want us standing around mourning in a room full of tears," says Ken Frazier. "He was more of an 'Irish Wake' type of soul.") from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at the Vexler Theatre.
Frazier is collecting photos and video clips to include in a video tribute, and there will also be an opportunity for those who wish to speak to share anecdotes and memories of Sid. Contact Frazier at [email protected] for more information.

North East School of the Arts' Tyler Phillips `see "Making it up as he goes along," December 16-22, 2004`, who will spend the summer interning with the Zachary Scott Theatre in Austin, made it to the finals of the ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Student Composers Competition with his ballet The Dark Days of Romance. Tyler's latest musical, Fairest of Them All, will be presented as part of NESA's Student Series in the fall, and he's already begun work with New York City-based lyricist June Rachelson-Ospa on a new piece.
