Nearing its 21st year — and San Antonio's 300th anniversary in 2018 — Artpace announced it has a new leader to usher the organization into the future.

Calling her a seasoned leader with more than 30 years of experience, Artpace board chair J. Travis Capps Jr. says Le Melle is the right leader to help the organization chart its course in San Antonio.
“She has worked for both grantor organizations and also the public sector. Her career is marked with transforming organizations; building community engagement at all levels; and forging working collaborations among arts organizations, governmental bodies, and economic development initiatives," Capps says in a press release.
Le Melle said she's excited to join the team and is already passionate about Artpace's mission to support the creative process.
"I'm also eager to immerse myseslf into the larger arts ecology of San Antonio, which is such a creative vibrant community," she says.
Le Melle led the Boston Center for the Arts since 2009. In 2005, right before Hurricane Katrina, Le Melle took a job as executive director of the Louisiana Division of the Arts. She also served as director of Cultural Affairs and Tourism for Queens, New York.
She replaces Amada Cruz, who left San Antonio to become director of the Phoenix Art Museum.
