Although their fine-tuned martial arts skills are reportedly never put to use in combat, the Shaolin Warriors are the last monks you’d ever want to cross. Disciples of an Indian Buddhist named Bodhi-dharma who founded the Shaolin monastery on a summer day circa 525 A.D., “China’s Mysterious Kung Fu Monks” call their system of fighting wushu. Inspired by meditations on “the attack and defense movements of animals,” the practice was developed in response to the perils of life in battle-torn feudal China.
