The theme of CineFestival en San Antonio (cinefestivalsa.org), the nation’s oldest Latino film festival, is “New World Onda: Building a Dynamic Media Society.” And if that’s not going to get some crazy panicked responses from the conspiracy-theory-subscribing Minutemen on talk radio, I’m not sure what will.
That’s just one of many reasons to get excited. CineFestival is currently accepting entries for Latino features, shorts, documentaries, animation, experimental films, and youth projects for its 31st annual festival to be held February 5-8 at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (1300 Guadalupe; guadalupeculturalarts.org). Entry fees are $30 for feature films, $25 for shorts, and $20 for students.
Considering entries must be postmarked by Monday, December 8, in order to be accepted, your best bet is to turn in a film you’ve already made re: building a dynamic media society (and what isn’t these days; am I right, ladies?). If you were one of those kids who finished his science-fair project on the way to school, though, consider entering the San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience (sa48hr.com), which is registering teams until 6 p.m. Friday, December 5.
