Happy anniversary, everyone! Thursday, March 19, marks the six years to the day that we as a country resumed our violent love affair with the nation of Iraq. Sure, she’s aged pretty poorly in the past few years (we’re not suggesting she’s let herself go, but Iraq was significantly less exploded when we first met), but she’s still our gal, and what better way to celebrate the anniversary than with an Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes (drafthouse.com/westlakes) screening of Leprechaun. The story of a small white lunatic on an obsessive quest for treasure, killing anyone who gets between him and his gold, will be screening twice Thursday, at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Oh, according to their website, this is actually a screening commemorating St. Patrick’s Day. I guess that makes sense, too.
The Sundance Channel, on the other hand, will be intentionally observing the anniversary with an Iraq-centered line-up. Those of us with high-end cable can properly celebrate the day by watching cheery documentaries about our six years of bliss, such as Charles Ferguson’s No End in Sight.
