Give Jon Anderson a break. His solo work, after leading progressive rock legend Yes for five decades (including a “two-Yes era” in ’89-’92), has been an unpredictable trip of world music and spiritual fusion with one common link: ambitious songwriting and superb musicianship. This show has added local flavor: Anderson will perform an acoustic set with the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio’s Philharmonic Orchestra and, for those who can’t stand quintessential Yes — music the Clash’s Paul Simonon called “birds-chirping crap” — the set includes more obvious rockers like “Roundabout” and the MTV staple “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” I hope he also performs songs from 1980’s Song of Seven, my favorite of his solo albums. Now, if you don’t know who the heck Jon Anderson is, consider that Kanye West sampled his voice in “Dark Fantasy” (the “Can we get much higher?” part, originally in Mike Oldfield’s ”In High Places,” was co-written by Anderson).
