Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-09-08

Are your tweens trying to con you into buying tickets to the Jonas Brothers concert (7:30pm Friday at the AT&T Center, from $49.98 at ticketmaster.com)? Do you know who opening act (and Disney spawn) Demi Lovato is? Do you care who their bratty “friends from Camp Rock” are? We didn’t think so. But you might care about Fabrizio Poggi & Chicken Mambo, an eclectic six-piece band that “crosses geographical and cultural boundaries” with a unique take on American blues, folk, and gospel. Hailing from Voghera, Italy, award-winning harmonica player Poggi has recorded nine albums, collaborating with such legends as Robert Plant and Bob Dylan. It’s a free afternoon concert that has mind-eraser written all over it — especially if you’re one of the unlucky grownups who didn’t receive the memo about the AT&T Center’s special JoBro “Parent Lounge.” Free, 5-9pm, Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd., New Braunfels, (830) 606-1281, gruenehall.com.
