ARTIFACTS

Not only has the personal-invitation renaissance completely jumped the tracks, creating a slew of unsolicited obligations and an infinite number of ways to slight people you barely know (thanks effin’ eVite), but the registry, once reserved for brides ’n’ grooms (grooms ’n’ grooms, etc.), has also been commandeered by etiquette-indifferent heathens for everything from high-school graduations to home births. Can thoughtfulness be stored on a department store’s server? Artifacts thinks not.

But here’s an innovative use it’s hard to begrudge: Artpace’s residencies have passed the bakers’-dozen mark, and so, too, have the artist-apartment furnishings, so Artpace created a registry at Bed Bath & Beyond. Not only will your gift of utensils, dishes, and sheets go directly into the hands of putative genius, BB&B will credit 20 percent of the purchase price to Artpace. Let’s get this done by September 25, Artpace asks, in time for the 08.3 residents. More info at artpace.org.

While you’re CAMming, don’t forget the renegade July shows, foremost among them Welcome to the Monkey House, opening Thursday, 6-9 p.m. at Blue Star’s UTSA Satellite Space, and featuring, among others, the mad graphic talents of Albert Alvarez and occasional Current contributor Enrique Martinez.
