ARTIFACTS

Dress Artifacts in sackcloth and ashes. Ashamed that she fell for the old “part of Fotoseptiembre” gambit last week (& tagged the John William Keedy Galería Ortiz show as such), as atonement she reprints in part a reprimand from Mr. FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA himself, Michael Mehl:
“As you know, FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA is open to all. But the exhibit or event has to be registered with our festival, within our deadline, which is the same every year (July 1). ... It is a
disservice and a lack of respect to all those artists and venues that took the trouble to register in time, for anyone else to promote their exhibits as part of our festival. It is also illegal, since we own the trademarks and regulate their usage.”

Got that? Also, don’t get “cute” with variations on the spelling; Mehl and/or Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City own just about any intelligible version you could scrabulous up. Except maybe OtOsEpTiEmBrEfAy. But Artifacts just registered that, so tough tooties, you freeloaders.

p.s. Artifacts is actually a big fan of FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA; artists & galleries, please support it by registering with the official organization; and you, art viewers, get the authentic schedule at safotofestival.com.
