Transit: A Cooperative for Artists in Transition: San Antonio’s newest art space offers a residency program for young artists moving from the classroom to the gallery circuit in a beautifully renovated mattress factory off South St. Mary’s.
Kelly O’Connor: Fresh off an impressive solo show at the down-home Sala Diaz gallery and newly represented by David Shelton Gallery in Stone Oak, O’Connor is poised to make big strides in 2011.
Exponential Records: Ernest Gonzales fuels this exploratory electronica label with a dogged work ethic and an enviable eye and ear for detail. You’ll find Mexicans with Guns, Aether, and A.M. Architect in its stable, and its rep seems to be expanding, well, exponentially.

I have no way of knowing what will happen with anyone in 2011, as if time were unfolding in a straight line that I can somehow observe from some insider vantage point, but I can say that Chris Sauter is always doing great things. Said straight out, he is one of the most consistently engaging artists I’ve ever known. I would also not be surprised by anything great coming from Jenny Browne. I do not know her well, but everything of hers that I’ve read flows comfortably with integrity and clarity. Only in the past year have I begun to understand how deeply creative is Kate Terrell. Whether my ignorance has been from lack of exposure or because of the subtlety of her spirit I cannot say, but she is a revelation.
