Instagram's 10th Worldwide InstaMeet Comes to Texas

Get those lo-fi filters ready. Instagram is celebrating its fourth anniversary with a worldwide “InstaMeet” on Saturday, Oct. 4. The InstaMeet, known to instagrammers as #WWIM10, will be the photo-sharing app’s tenth global meet-up to date. During these meet-ups, instagrammers from all over the world are encouraged to step away from their phones and interact with each other in real life, before returning to their phones to snap shots of their newfound Instagram bff’s.

This year, Texas is taking part in #WWIM10. Members of the Houston, Austin, and San Antonio Instagram communities plan to take over Giddings, TX on Saturday at 3:30pm to #ExploreGiddings. A small town situated about 50 miles east of Austin with an approximate population of 5,500 people, Giddings is not your typical event-hosting location. The town’s only claim to fame is that Bonnie and Clyde used a boarding house there as a hideout once. So why did the instagrammers choose Giddings, of all places? Because of its southern charm and its hometown hospitality. Also, because there’s a bunch of old stuff to take pictures of, like a peanut factory and a carousel and a dance hall. Expect everyone in attendance to take at least one conspicuously unaware selfie next to a carousel horse.

The Texas InstaMeet attendees will meet in front of Union Station Transportation Museum, located at 289 W. Railroads St. in Giddings. San Antonio instagrammers can contact @indiandance for more details.
