As the excellent title suggests, “horrible thrift-store fashion attire is required” at South Texas Museum of Popular Culture’s (aka Texpop) latest — a multifaceted offering benefiting Thrive Youth Center, one of only four shelters in the country specifically geared toward housing and assisting LGBTQ youth who would otherwise be on the streets.

Aiming to stretch the spirit of Pride month into July while giving Thrive a financial boost in its mission to “help LGBTQ youth become empowered, self-sufficient and successful young adults,” the event combines a drag show hosted by Felicia Andrews and performances by local drag king troupe Los MENtirosos with a group exhibition featuring works by seven out-and-proud artists (Julián P. Ledezma, Anel Flores, Andrew Salinas, Jose Villalobos, Jimmy Moon, Lacey Ederle and Anthony Diaz), plus HIV testing courtesy of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation and adult beverages provided by Big Bend Brewing and Fort Davis-based winery Chateau Wright.

$10, Fri July 27, 7pm-midnight, South Texas Museum of Popular Culture, 1017 E. Mulberry Ave., (210) 858-8935, facebook.com/texpopsa.
