Benefiting Pride San Antonio, the inaugural Q Fest elevates queer cinema to new heights with three days of screenings. Of the 18 short and feature-length films, most have LGBT themes and storylines. The few that do not are either directed or written by members of the LGBT community.
Tuesday's program is as follows:
6pm: Remember to Breathe (2013)
Director Marc Saltarelli's drama stars Lee Meriwether, Leigh Ann Larkin, Susan Blakley, Erica Ikeda, Mimi Cozzens, Brian Norris, and Fabienne Maurer. Alice Martin (Meriwether), a former headliner at the Latin Quarter, now lives alone, depressed and forgotten in a house hidden away just below the Hollywood sign. She remembers a past love (Blakely) while searching for meaning in her golden years. While mentoring a young aspiring singer (Larkin), past memories become entwined with the present as Alice comes to realize what she thought was lost is only dormant, awaiting a new spark.
San Antonio Four (WIP)
A work in progress, San Antonio Four concerns four Latina lesbians from San Antonio who, advocates believe, were wrongfully convicted of sexually assaulting two children.
8pm: Raid of the Rainbow Lounge (2012)
Meredith Baxter narrates Robert L. Camina's 103-minute documentary recounting the widely publicized and controversial 2009 police raid of a Fort Worth gay bar that resulted in multiple arrests and serious injuries.
