A new event next month at The Pearl will close out 2015 on a bright and positive note for San Antonio's Jewish community and the city as a whole — a welcome development in a year marred by several instances of hateful anti-Semitic vandalism.

The Pearl and Young & Jewish in San Antonio will host the inaugural Menorah lighting at The Pearl on Wednesday, December 9 from 6 p.m. to 9:30. Green Vegetarian Cuisine will provide kosher dishes, including falafel burritos for $8 and jelly doughnuts for $4. And local music acts Tera Ferna and Brent Michael Wood will provide the jams; in addition to a 45-minute set of their own songs, Tera Ferna will play a few Hanukkah favorites.

Although a bit larger than your typical household version, the nine-feet-tall menorah at The Pearl will be lit in traditional fashion each successive night of Hanukkah.
