News and notes from the San Antonio food scene Flame still burns at the Candlelight Earlier this month, patrons of the Candlelight Coffeehouse & Wine Bar, 3011 N. St. Mary's, were mourning the impending closure of one of the city's comfiest - and gay-friendliest - businesses. New Year's Eve was to have been the Candlelight's final blowout . But on December 19, Peter and Diana Sebben, who have been at the business' helm for 10 years, announced the Candlelight will remain open under new ownership. Peter Sebben said the new owners - as yet undisclosed because the paperwork has to clear - are "loyal customers" who want to see the coffeehouse continue. After a decades' worth of 15-hour days, Peter Sebben is returning to school to study radiology, while Diana Sebben plans to help friends with a bed & breakfast. "We were exhausted, basically," said Peter Sebben. "But the most rewarding thing has been making friends. We know most of our customers are loyal patrons; we have a community here." The Candlelight serves coffee, wine, sandwiches, and salads; it offers indoor dining - including couches that can devour you - and a lush outdoor patio. Hours are 4pm-midnight Tuesday-Thursday, 4pm-1am Friday and Saturday, and 4pm-midnight Sunday. It is closed Monday. Compiled by Lisa Sorg
