Amuse-BOUCHE

A half-dozen locavore providers will take their wares to the new farmers market at the Botanical Garden this Thursday. On the tables, according to Robert Maggiani, Go Texan’s San Antonio Coordinator for Regional Marketing Programs, will be squash, tomatoes, carrots, beets, okra, lettuce, and as always, Texas honey. It’s still too early for cucumbers and cantaloupes, though, he adds.

Even if that weekly market’s timing and location aren’t quite central enough for you (8am-1pm, 555 Funston), drive the few extra miles knowing that you’re supporting a coming boom. Later this year, “one is fixin’ to come up Friday mornings at Main Plaza,” says Maggiani, followed by another at the Pearl Brewery on Saturdays (where Texas Farm to Table’s Brian Montgomery worked to nurture one to life last year).

Another reason to celebrate the Spurs (almost surprise) return to the Western Conference Finals: A-B ran into longtime (and much missed) Liberty Bar server Rudy at Central Market last week, who claims to be serving great burgers and the coldest beer in the state in the Willow Springs Golf Course parking lot across from the AT&T Center. Check the word-of-mouth at games three and four, May 25 and 27. Ticket info at spurs.com.
