The third annual Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance Feral Hog Roast would seem to be in the “what do you get the benefit that already has everything” category, what with celebrity chefs of Jason Dady caliber lining up to roast said hogs, and a Panhandle-size spread of jewelry, art, and homemade Mustang Grape wine to bid on. But just in case all that doesn’t cause you to plunk down the (tax-deductible) $100 entry ($80 for members; $30 for the young folk) post haste, they’ve added swimming in the pool at this year’s site, legendary Red Berry Mansion. 5-11 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 856 Gembler Road. (210) 320-1457/(210) 835-7309 or aquiferalliance.org for more info.
The Current is seeking a qualified freelance food critic to provide backup for team leader Ron Bechtol (who isn’t going anywhere; didn’t mean to get up any restaurateur’s hopes). Qualified doesn’t necessarily mean previously published, but it does mean at least three polished writing samples. Send them to: [email protected].
And lastly, please set aside some serious reading/eating time next week for our big-ass Burger Issue, covering dozens of local joints’ finest patties, meat and veggie, as well as DIY best practices. On stands September 17.
