Battle for top tamale

It’s November, which means fall leaves, digging out my jackets and coats, and tamales. The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without those meat and masa dishes. If you think you’ve got the best tamale recipe (or your grandma does), you should enter the 2nd Annual Tamales! At Pearl competition. Contestants will submit their yummiest tamales in three categories: chicken, pork, and wild card, which can be any unique tamale. Register online via atpearl.com by by *Thursday, November 10. The preliminary takes place on Sunday, November 13, and the finals are held at the festival on Saturday, December 3. The ultimate prize is $1,000 for the winner of each category and $100 H-E-B gift cards for the other four finalists.

Fans of Izakaya Nin’s (20330 Huebner Rd) extensive sushi and sake menus mourned its closing last week. The sushi restaurant shut down on October 30. Though management says on their Facebook page that they will be back someday, they don’t specify when or where.
