While Houston and Dallas dominated the list, Range, which opened in September 2017, was the only San Antonio restaurants to make the cut. Patricia Sharpe, the magazine's executive editor and restaurant critic, commented on the aesthetic of the chophouse, with its leather-clad menus, but also noted the surprises at Range.
"But what you might not expect at Range is a dish like wagyu shabu-shabu, thin-sliced beef that you cook yourself in a bubbling soy broth and then roll up in napa cabbage leaves," Sharpe writes. "Likewise, you might be surprised to see a superb classic from the nineties, miso-marinated baked black cod."
Of course, Sharpe made sure to mention the restaurant's blueberry muffins with pink-peppercorn butter and cotton candy at the end of the meal.
Though they didn't make the top 10 list, Battalion (a joint effort from Andrew Goodman and Stefan Bowers) and Chef Luca Della Casa's Nonna Osteria both received an honorable mention.
