New nightspot BLVD offers both a relaxed craft cocktail lounge and gold-drenched dance club.
The crew behind bars including Stone Oak's Social House and the defunct Club Rio has opened a Northwest San Antonio location that's part laid-back cocktail lounge and part splashy, gold-drenched nightclub.

BLVD Bar & Lounge, located at 5138 UTSA Blvd., appears to be a schizophrenic affair by design.

Its front room and patio, open for happy hours and weekdays, serve up craft cocktails and craft brews in a relaxed bricks-and-bookshelves setting. "[The] perfect place to enjoy a relaxed evening after work while watching the game or listening to live music," according to the club's opening announcement.

However, one of those bookcases swivels — speakeasy-style — into a black and gold nightclub, replete with over-the-top eye candy like 1,000 gold skulls set into its back wall and a circular chandelier comprised of 1,800 LED lights. The DJ booth, situated atop the bar, includes a 6-by-12-foot LED video wall integrated with the chandelier.

BLVD is open Tuesday-Friday, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday, 5 p.m. to midnight.
