The man named Black, on the heels of his first full-length release in a decade, On Purpose, will headline a concert at the Tobin Center on August 11. Tickets for the show, priced from $39.50-$59.50, can be purchased at www.tobincenter.org, via phone at (210) 223-8624, or at the theater's box office, located at 100 Auditorium Circle, and will go on sale Friday, February 5.

Believe it or not, Black was born in New Jersey, however his family boogied back to Texas before he was one year old, settling in Katy. Black's debut, Killin' Time, featured songs written by Black and writing partner Hayden Nicholas, as well as Black's backing band, foregoing the industry standard of recording with an often terribly over-produced, corny-sounding group of session musicians. Killin' Time's first single "A Better Man" went to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, the first time that a debut single from a male artist had done so in 14 years.

Below is the hit that Black had come to loathe and love, fearing that he would forever be remembered as the Killin' Time Guy, a fear that Black has long since surpassed with over 20 million albums sold worldwide. Dig the killer baritone guitar.
